A New Day
A new day is dawning at Mount Salem Kitchen, as we put our foods online.
They include Liptauer, a spreadable cheese; Haus Vinaigrette and Gewürz Sauce, which are condiments that make fine marinades, too; and Vincotto, a grape essence that doubles as a condiment and sauce base.
To set the record straight, we did not set out to start a food business.
This all began years ago when we served these items to guests at our farmhouse. They were new to most people, but universally loved. Some guests were familiar with the flavors – they had what we call a Central European palate – and a few had actually had Liptauer, or Gewürz, or Vincotto before. Many suggested putting them into bottles and jars, making them for sale.
So, we began at nearby farmers’ markets offering samples to people who were not guests at our farmhouse table, and then we got into a handful of gourmet shops, butchers and wine shops. We learned a lot from taking both of those steps, and today we’re sure we’ll learn a lot about selling these items to you online.
We will continue selling at our farm and through select retailers, but we embrace this new day with gusto.
Join us for this step of the journey.
