Our Liptauer Shines Above the Rest, Even in Austria
Here at Mount Salem Kitchen, our customers go crazy for our Liptauer, which is a traditional Austrian cheese spread made simply from two cheeses, butter and seasonings in our own personal variation thanks to a family recipe. But how does it stack up to the Liptauer found in Austria?
On our recent trip to Austria, we couldn’t wait to put it to the test. We tried five different Liptauer products from a supermarket and set up a tasting exercise with a group of people. All of the Liptauers from the supermarket ranged vastly, from mild to sharp, light pink to deep orange (from the paprika), and with consistency ranging from thin to thick.
Despite the many variations of Liptauer that our test group tried, one thing was consistent across the board – our hand-crafted Liptauer was far better than these mass-produced versions, which our testers said was because ours had the best and strongest flavors and the most ideal consistency.
Although we certainly expected better from Liptauer coming right off Austrian shelves, we’re glad that we, and our artisan food-loving customers, can always find a great-tasting Liptauer here at Mount Salem Kitchen. And, that selection is set to expand – we’re currently working on a version of Liptauer seasoned with pumpkin seed oil instead of paprika; a seasoning mix of herbs and salt; and a buttermilk/dill sauce.
We love nothing more than to have someone say that our Liptauer is “almost as good as my mother’s.” So how does it stack up to yours? Give it a try by clicking here and let us know.
