South Carolina Is Coming To Hunterdon County This Saturday As We Make Our Low Country Boil
It’s not fancy. It’s not hard to make. It’s not eaten with utensils. But yet it’s beloved, no matter if it’s served in South Carolina Low Country or over the rolling, lush hills of our Hunterdon County vineyard.
This Saturday at noon at our weekly Americana Hour, where we celebrate international cuisines and their Americana counterparts made with local ingredients and influence, we’ll make a Low Country Boil with shrimp, corn on the cob, kielbasa, red potatoes and Old Bay. Cooked in a big pot of boiling water and eaten by hand, it’s a communal meal that we’ll give an upscale twist to.
That means we’ll pair our Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir Rose and cuvee of Blaufrankisch, Zweigelt and St. Laurent with the classic meal, which are perfect pairings thanks to their dryness, crispness and thirst-quenching ability – ideal for summer weather, too. Plus, alongside our Low Country Boil, we’ll serve deviled eggs, a pimento dip with crudites and fresh peaches.
Of course, a meal such as this can be enjoyed at any time of year and in any setting. But we find that there’s just something about taking a bite of shrimp, corn, potatoes, Old Bay and sausage – all with subtle flavorings of one another – that makes us feel like we’re in the heart of the sultry heat of South Carolina.
