What’s Happening at Mount Salem Kitchen
One year ago today, business at Mount Salem Kitchen was anything but usual.
We were filling orders of wine and meals to-go for curbside pickup only. Thanks to the generosity of Mount Salem Kitchen ambassadors – the first to do this lost their mother early in the pandemic – we also delivered to those too ill to come to the farm themselves.
Despite the sunshine over the vineyards, it was a dark time here, as our state and New York were ground zero for the worst COVID-19 outbreak in the country. But although we saw fear in the eyes above the masks, we saw hope, too.
Our new schedule
Now, that hope towards the future has come to fruition and we’re preparing to see our friends and customers for the first time in over a year without masks and social distancing. Here’s our schedule of open hours and services:
Tuesday-Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Open for retail sales of bottled wine and packaged food
Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m.: Same as above, with the option of borrowing wine glasses to enjoy alongside a bottle of wine in the Meadow
Sunday: Open by appointment or chance; email or call us and we’ll help as best we can.
Planning on visiting on a day other than Saturday? We may be working in the vineyard or attending to a private event, but call the phone number listed on the Wine Barn door and we’ll be right down to help you.
We’re also thrilled to bring back some of our classic events. Here’s when you can enjoy them.
Pairings
Our next Pairing is Saturday, June 5, when we’ll feature grilled salmon fillet with a bacon-shallot compote served with grilled asparagus and wild rice. (Plus, for pescatarians, it can be made without bacon, and if asparagus isn’t in season, you can make it with green beans or broccoli, too.)

Come and see us prepare this Mount Salem Kitchen favorite in our Summer Kitchen on our Crush Pad, where you can ask the chef questions and also enjoy generous splashes of three wines for $45 per person. Sign up by emailing us at info@mountsalemkitchen.com or calling 908-735-9359.
Cooking classes
Our next cooking class is Saturday, June 12 at 11 a.m. when we’ll reprise an Austrian classic – Wiener Schnitzel. This is our most popular cooking class of all-time, so don’t waste time signing up.
Suit up and join us for this hands-on class, where you’ll learn how to prepare schnitzel in the authentic way. No shortcuts or cheating!
We’ll plate it with petite new red potatoes, graced with dill or parsley (whichever is freshest); lingonberry sauce; a garden-fresh green vegetable (steamed beans are a favorite); with a sliced lemon wedge and scattered capers.
For $85, this class includes all instruction, ingredients and wine. Sign up by emailing us at info@mountsalemkitchen.com or calling 908-735-9359.
Featured Wine
Every Saturday, we will offer a Featured Wine that you can taste on a complementary basis in the Wine Barn. It will vary from week to week, encouraging you to find something you like and maybe take a bottle home or up to the Meadow to enjoy here.
