Our First Pairing Was a Home Run! Check Out Our Next Sat., May 1
Usually, the Mount Salem Kitchen calendar is chock-full of events, including everything from cooking classes, to private tastings, to Pairings (which are when we pair three of our wines with a seasonal dish that guests see prepared up-close).
For obvious reasons, our events calendar was limited last year. But now, after our first Pairing of the season was held last Saturday, it’s official – we’re back in action.
A home run
We knew that the Pairing, which featured duck confit over locally grown greens dressed with Haus Vinaigrette and pomme frites, would be busy.
Pairings are beloved traditions here at the farm and our visitors were eager to get back to it. Guests leave satiated with the recipes and a few bottles of wine under their arms, and often linger for another glass of wine and some good conversation.
But we didn’t realize how much of a home run this one would be.
It was overbooked by a whopping 70%. While still staying safe with masks and social distancing, our friends – some of which we haven’t seen in a year – were able to engage with one another as well as the chef while watching a delicious dish come to life. It was all amid our new Summer Kitchen on our crush pad, with Wine Barn doors opened wide for abundant and fresh Hunterdon air.
This Saturday’s Pairing
Missed last Saturday’s Pairing? Don’t worry – we have another this Saturday, May 1 at noon for $45 per person, which includes tastings of our Riesling 2019, Gruner Veltliner 2018 and Blaufränkisch 2018 Reserve.
The menu focuses on Asparagus Soup with Poached Egg served on a house-made baguette and dressed with finely chopped red bell pepper, fresh dill and asparagus tips. The eggs, asparagus and flour for the bread are all grown here on Mount Salem Road.

This dish isn’t only a Mount Salem Kitchen classic (one that also found its way into our Chief Cooking Officer Agnes’ cookbook) but it’s a seasonal staple that’s perfect for May. Here in Hunterdon County, the time for asparagus to shine is right now.
Space is limited, so please contact us at 908-735-9359 or info@mountsalemkitchen.com to reserve your spot.
