Our First Pairing of the Season is Sat., April 24
After a seemingly endless winter, spring is finally upon us here at Mount Salem Kitchen. How do we know? The chirping robins are making their annual appearances. Buds are breaking in the vineyard. The lush greenery is at its best. And Pairings are back once again, just in time to celebrate our 17th growing season.
What’s a Pairing?
A Pairing at Mount Salem Kitchen is quite as simple as it sounds: We pair three of our wines with a seasonal dish you see prepared and plated up-close, while you sample the wines and engage with the chef and other guests.
An hour later, expect to leave satiated with the recipes and a few bottles of wine under your arm. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself lingering for an additional glass of wine and some good conversation. And don’t also be surprised if you find yourself at another one of our Pairings – most of our visitors do.
We began offering Pairings years ago when we would prepare food to complement our wines for our guests, which led to requests for private events like luncheons and dinners. This then prompted people to ask for recipes and eventually cooking classes. They are now a staple here, often organized by people to celebrate a special event, or simply an excuse for food and wine lovers to get together.
Our first Pairing of the season
On Saturday, April 24 at noon, join us for our first Pairing of the season for $45 per person in the Summer Kitchen on our crush pad, with Wine Barn doors opened wide for abundant and fresh Hunterdon air. Standard mask-and-social distancing courtesies are expected.

We’ll be tasting our Riesling 2019, Grüner Veltliner 2019 and Blaufränkisch 2019 alongside a presentation of Duck Confit, served on Bitter Greens dressed lightly in our Haus Vinaigrette, with bistro potatoes. Peter is leading and Kirsten is pouring.
Sound good? For anyone who cooks well, eats well or lives well – or all three – it certainly should! However, don’t hold off – space is limited. Please contact us at 908-735-9359 or info@mountsalemkitchen.com to reserve your spot. A waiting list may be started if necessary.
Can’t make it?
Don’t worry, our second Pairing is right around the corner, too on Saturday, May 1 at noon with Poached Eggs in Asparagus Soup with Toasted Baguette. And, a note for those who love local: the eggs, asparagus and flour for the bread are all grown here on Mount Salem Road.
