View Live Food Demos Outdoors Thanks To Our Summer Kitchen
Throughout history, summer kitchens have been staples at the homes of many – when it was simply too hot to cook indoors, families utilized these outdoor kitchens to continue to create meals with a breeze in tow.
Here at Mount Salem Kitchen, we utilize a summer kitchen, too – which actually began here decades ago as a hearth is still visible in the crawlspace beneath our 1811 farmhouse!
Each year, we set up a summer kitchen for outdoor cooking and eating at our Pittstown farm. This year, though, due to the public health circumstances, we’ll also use it to bring back one of the most popular experiences at Mount Salem Kitchen – our one-hour Pairings sessions, in which visitors can enjoy a glass of wine while watching a food demonstration which have been traditionally hosted in our farmhouse kitchen.

What to expect
Our 2020 summer kitchen will be unveiled this weekend with a wood fire, gas grill, charcoal grill and smoker made from a wine barrel, as well as prep space, refrigeration and running water.
You’ll be able to find it in our meadow, between the present seating area for wine visitors and the vegetable garden, which is currently teeming with green cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, beans, squash and dill.
We look forward to showing winery guests how to make items such as Grilled Quail, Goulash made over a wood fire, Alpine BBQ Chicken, Curried Zucchini Soup, Lecso (tomato/pepper/garlic stew) and more during these $30-per-person sessions which include a glass of our award-winning wine.

How to join in
During each session, 18-24 people can make themselves at home beneath our tented area. As of right now, no masks while seated will be necessary due to New Jersey public health measures, but social distancing and common sense will be practiced to keep everyone safe and healthy.
